application of forces between the maxillae and mandible at a single point as near as possible to the center of the supporting areas of the upper and lower jaws, for the purpose of distributing closing forces evenly throughout the areas of the supporting structures during the registration and recording of maxillomandibular (jaw) relations and during the correction of occlusal errors.
