scleromalacia perforans

scleromalacia perforans
a form of nodular scleritis in which necrosis and atrophy occur without inflammation and usually without pain. Marked thinning of the sclera exposes the dark underlying uvea, the nodules may coalesce, and perforation of the globe readily occurs. It is most often associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
