athym·ism (ə-thīmґiz-əm) 1. absence of the thymus. 2. the condition resulting from absence of the thymus; if it is congenital or the result of neonatal thymectomy, it will be accompanied by a lack of T lymphocytes with some degree of immunodeficiency. Called also athymia.
