paraesthesiae
pl. n.
spontaneously occurring abnormal tingling sensations, sometimes described as pins and needles. They may be symptoms of partial damage to a peripheral nerve, such as that caused by external pressure on the affected part, but can also result from damage to sensory fibres in the spinal cord.
