magnesium carbonate n a carbonate of magnesium esp the very white crystalline normal salt MgCO3 that occurs naturally, is prepared artificially by precipitation, and is used chiefly in paint and printing ink, as a filler, as an addition to table salt to prevent caking, and in medicine as an antacid and laxative
