thi·o·re·dox·in (thi″o-rə-dokґsin) any of a group of small disulfide-containing proteins that serve as oxidoreductases for protein disulfides. Thioredoxin-1 occurs in the cytosol and is important in DNA synthesis and the regulation of transcription factors that control cell growth.
