A synthetic skeletal muscle relaxant that acts directly on muscle by uncoupling electrical from mechanical events; also, the specific agent for prevention and treatment of malignant hyperthermia.

dan·tro·lene so·di·um (danґtro-lēn) a skeletal muscle relaxant administered orally as an antispasmodic in conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy; it is also used orally or intravenously in the prophylaxis and treatment of malignant hyperthermia.
