sarcosine dehydrogenase

sarcosine dehydrogenase
sar·co·sine de·hy·dro·gen·ase (sahrґko-sēn de-hiґdro-jən-ās) [EC 1.5.99.1] a mitochondrial enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the oxidative demethylation of sarcosine to form glycine; electrons are transferred via its flavin (FAD) cofactor to electron transfer flavoprotein. Folate is also a cofactor. The reaction occurs in the inner mitochondrial membrane in liver and kidney; deficiency of the enzyme, an autosomal recessive trait, results in sarcosinemia.
