RNA-directed RNA polymerase

RNA-directed RNA polymerase
RNA-di·rect·ed RNA po·lym·er·ase (dĭ-rekґtəd pə-limґər-ās) [EC 2.7.7.48] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the template-directed step-by-step addition of ribonucleotides to the 3′ end of a growing RNA chain, using a single-stranded RNA template. The reaction is important for transcription, and in some cases replication, of RNA in most RNA viruses except retroviruses.
