granuloma gluteale infantum
a type of dermatosis seen in the diaper area or buttocks of infants, characterized clinically by oval nodules resembling hemangiomas or hematomas, and histologically by hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, and an infiltrate of polymorphonuclear leukocytes mixed with plasma cells and macrophages throughout the dermis. Recovery is usually spontaneous. Called also infantile gluteal g.
